Second order classical perturbation theory for atom surface scattering: analysis of asymmetry in the angular distribution.

چکیده
A second order classical perturbation theory is developed and applied to elastic atom corrugated surface scattering. The resulting theory accounts for experimentally observed asymmetry in the final angular distributions. These include qualitative features, such as reduction of the asymmetry in the intensity of the rainbow peaks with increased incidence energy as well as the asymmetry in the location of the rainbow peaks with respect to the specular scattering angle. The theory is especially applicable to "soft" corrugated potentials. Expressions for the angular distribution are derived for the exponential repulsive and Morse potential models. The theory is implemented numerically to a simplified model of the scattering of an Ar atom from a LiF(100) surface.

Semiclassical perturbation theory for diffraction in heavy atom surface scattering.
The semiclassical perturbation theory formalism of Hubbard and Miller [J. Chem. Phys. 78, 1801 (1983)] for atom surface scattering is used to explore the possibility of observation of heavy atom diffractive scattering. In the limit of vanishing ℏ the semiclassical theory is shown to reduce to the classical perturbation theory. The quantum diffraction pattern is sensitive to the characteristics ...
متن کاملAnalytic Solution for Hypersonic Flow Past a Slender Elliptic Cone Using Second-Order Perturbation Approximations
An approximate analytical solution is obtained for hypersonic flow past a slender elliptic cone using second-order perturbation techniques in spherical coordinate systems. The analysis is based on perturbations of hypersonic flow past a circular cone aligned with the free stream, the perturbations stemming from the small cross-section eccentricity. By means of hypersonic approximations for the ...

In this project, the Faddeev-Watson-Lovelace (FWL) formalism is generalized to large scattering angles. The angular range includes 0-180 degrees. Using this method, the charge transfer differential cross-sections are calculated, in a second-order approximation, for collision of energetic positrons and electrons with neutral positronium atoms. In this approximation, the rearrangement amplitude c...

In this work, thermo – elastic analysis for functionally graded thick – walled cylinder with temperature - dependent material properties at steady condition is carried out. The length of cylinder is infinite and loading is consist of internal hydrostatic pressure and temperature gradient. All of physical and mechanical properties expect the Poisson's ratio are considered as multiplied an expone...
متن کاملAnalytic Equation of State for the Square-well Plus Sutherland Fluid from Perturbation Theory
Analytic expressions were derived for the compressibility factor and residual internal energy of the square-well plus Sutherland fluid. In this derivation, we used the second order Barker-Henderson perturbation theory based on the macroscopic compressibility approximation together with an analytical expression for radial distribution function of the reference hard sphere fluid. These properties...
